Yes miles, Not Km.

And that’s the face of a man that logs 125,000 miles a year.

Victor Sheppard Bought a 2007 Tundra, and then proceeded to drive the ever loving crap out of it, servicing it regularly and treating it with kindness yielded 1,000,000 miles mostly trouble free.

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! has more details but Dayum...thats a lot of miles.

God damn. That’s not exactly an old truck either.

That guy goes through timing belts like I go through underwear.

With my job, I’ll probably log in 50k miles combined, and that feels like a lot. I can’t even imagine 125k.

I can’t recall what my uncle used to log before he was promoted but I think it was something like 80-100k a year. His license plate surround says “my other car is a prototype”

So the moral of the story is that if I drive my car enough I get a new one for free? Those maintenance appointments look like good investments...

damn strait. That being said, His is the 7th known vehicle in the US to reach that number so the odds aren’t in your favor.

Oil change every 2 weeks. Something like 360 miles A DAY.

I couldn’t imagine having to fill with gas so frequently.

5 bucks says the new one breaks in a month.

I swear these million miler trucks are 1 of a kind. There’s probably one built that year from any company and most people don’t run the miles to find if they were lucky enough to get it.

Debbie Downer OUT

Well, its like I always saw with fast food places: if you see something new on the menu, buy it...because it will be the one item the employees aren’t sick of making and might actually try and make well. Maybe since the Tundra was pretty new in 2007...they were building them with a little extra care.

Would love to see some detailed measurements of the internals once they tear it all down. What kind of wear and tear does a Tundra go through over a million miles, even with regular service?

Not that the numbers would mean anything to me, but it’d be interesting.

yeah, me too. When they did my head gasket at 240,000 miles I had no major wear anywhere. When I took out my gears to regear at the same time there was no major wear. I still have the stock gears and they look brand new.

Yeah and after the story of the guy who need a whole new engine in his taco the day he tried to drive off the lot I’m a little scared of brand new toyota trucks.

And I guess Debbie Downer stuck around....

the other side of the coin is that the employees might suck at new things...

Another Debbie Downer showed up, should I call you Dave the Depressed? hahaha

And for all those asking if they can get a free car at 1 million miles, do it with a brand thats never had a recorded 1 million mile car before, being their first probably helps the odds of getting a free replacement.

My 01 Silverado had to have the transmission rebuilt somewhere around 180,000 and it was still spotty at times when I got rid of it at 226,000. I’m convinced that getting anything to 200,000 is average these days. Beyond that, you’re just rolling the dice.

That’s probably why Toyota is interested in giving him a free one.

~$30k for that kind of real world data gathering? 100% worth it to them.

I guarantee you that engine is (internally) showing less wear than a typical 100k-150k mile car with 10-15 years under its belt. Constant highway travel and regular service intervals can do wonders. Most modern engines should be able to do this, but for all the crappy plastic and low-quality sensors surrounding the engine. Those usually drive the owner to sell the car long before it actually has serious internal wear.

With a 15-year-old German DD that gets used 3-4 times a week, I just use the oil, tranny, and differential spots on the garage floor to remind myself that as long as its leaking, there's still fluid in there. I think that's an old British car joke.

One article you linked says it’s the seventh known million-mile vehicle in the US. I had to look it up:

And it’s the startups and short trips that cause the most wear. With an average of 350 miles per day, it’s not making too many short trips.

If you use a wrangler, you’ll probably pay for a couple of whole new wranglers before hitting a million miles lol

Exactly. Far more impressive, IMHO, is seeing Panther taxis do 300k+ almost entirely within the city. That's a helluva lot of strain on the engine, all components, and the driver's spine (no matter how cushy the suspension is).

Yeah, I do :)

I also agree with you, I’d be nervous about the new one. Although at least in the case of the Tundra, it’s not a newly designed motor, like in the case of that Taco.
